In nature there are known twenty amino acids. These can be distinguished in essential amino acids and not-essential amino acids. The latter can be produced by the human organism itself, the essential amino acids have to be absorbed by nutrition. The amino acids amalgamate in body and form chains so that can be produced so-called proteins. Depending on how the amino acids are combined, the proteins occupy different functions. Concerning bodybuilding and sports in gerneral, amino acids are very important. As already mentioned, amino acids are already slotted proteins. So the body can immediately use the amino acids where they are needed.
On the other hand protein is essentially relevant for the build-up of muscles. Especially in situations of a lack of proteins in body, the intake can quickly correct this deficit. Such situations are, for example, in the morning after waking up, after training or at night. Amino acids don't have to be split at first, like proteins, but are directly available to the organism.
The disadvantage concerning the intake of amino acids is that the amino acids are only able to correct the deficit for a short time. In order to cover the demand in proteins in the longt run, it is impossible to avoid the intake of proteins. However, directly after training - one of the most precious muscle-buildup phases- the intake of amino acids may help to capitalize this phase optimally.
Concerning bodybuilding, especially the amino acid Glutamine plays a prominent role. Glutamine plays the most important role of all amino acids during the process of muscle buildup. This is why there are dozens of supplements which do not include the complete amino-acid-complex but only Glutamine.
